Richard Schwarz (1984)
Austria

Project #NewCheapNature is asking several important questions regarding the relationship we have with our surroundings, with nature and each other. It is challenging the idea of transferring online engagement into real life impact, inspiring change in individual behaviour. The atrworks of the artsist Richard Scwharz is related more on general topics of the world, nature and/or society. During his “online” residency he created a “social space”. He used Instagram and Facebook, posts and stories to ask to the community a series of questions in order to point out the problems of the relationship, knowledge and awareness of the importance of nature and the environment.

#NewCheapNature, 2020

Installation and social media campaign

Richard Schwarz is an artist from Tyrol (Austria) who works with various media. His work develops from research and analysis on practical issues linked to the world, nature and society itself. For his project, entitled #NewCheapNature, the artist asked important questions about the environment and our relationship with nature. He created, with Novo Kulturno Naselje (Novi Sad), an online campaign via social media to encourage the public to question our daily actions and reflect on the serious consequences these actions have on the ecosystem. “In what way are we living on our planet? What kind of planet are we leaving to future generations? What do we really need?” These were and are the questions the artist is asking. On this occasion, he involves the audience using a dynamo, which visitors can use to produce energy and a social media campaign to encourage and urge users to reflect on these important topics and to create a real digital community to carry out these claims. The best choice depends only on the willingness of those living on planet Earth.
