Patrick Hubmann is an architect, who creates mobile furniture and structure that could move from one place to another. It influences directly the life of people who develop a product, who build it and deal with it, who use it and destroy it. Every man-made object interacts with many different people and makes people interact with each other.

THE GRAND PLAZA EXPRESS

Installation, various mediums

Patrick Hubmann is a designer and artist-engineer, who lives and works in Portugal. In his practice he uses materials, colours and objects to investigate relationships and interactions between people. The artist mostly works in the public space, where he develops local projects with community participation, creating workshops and site-specific installations. He completed a residency at Folkestone Fringe and  starting from the history of Folkestone, the artist created a collaborative project to encourage people to think of alternative uses for spaces. The initial idea developed from the history of the city and its, no longer working, railway.  The artist also carried out several workshops to discuss his ideas and perceptions, and collect information from residents and visitors to the city, during which he posed an important question reflecting on the topic of his project: “What can we build to bring people together, that they might be attracted to?” The answer was clear: a train. In the past, trains were the city’s driving force. Fifteen years after the railway’s closure, the artist built The Grand Plaza Express, a carriage to take visitors on a new imaginary journey.
