Patrícia Geraldes (1980)
Portugal

The work of Patrícia Geraldes features a strong prevalence of manual and artisan work, where various materials, like wood and paper, ink and etching, are used. In her artistic practice, there is a special focus on narration and the book, an object the artist uses in several sculptures, bringing together a biocentric style with the idea of restoring a virtuous balance between humans and nature. Our link with nature and with the community, respect for the environment and the energy that comes from greenery itself also play an essential role in her work. One of the main goals of her art is to involve the different local communities where she works, uncovering stories of identity and memory.

1-KM-LONG STORIES, 2019

Colour sketchbook

Patricia Geraldes is a Portuguese artist who did her residence in Italy with Latitudo Art Projects. Geraldes in her artistic practice, uses various materials including wood, paper, ink and etching to create several sculptures, combining a bio-centric style with the idea of restoring a virtuous balance between humans and nature. The link with nature and vegetation is the inspiration for Geraldes’ work, as it is for her life in general. She developed her project with the inhabitants of the Corviale neighbourhood and led different workshops, exploring the building (long approximately 1 Km), discovering its secrets, talking with people, probing the depths of this immense and, in some ways, inaccessible place. The inhabitants shared emotions, sensations, intimate stories and experiences linked to this long building and created with the artist the sketchbooks here installed. Visitors are invited to browse the books and read these 1-Km- Long Stories.
