ARTWORK

BIČIULYSTĖ, 2020

Interactive digital sculpture, sound

Konstantin Djuričković is a Serbian artist who developed his project with the Kaunas Biennial. In his artistic practice, Djuričković uses 3D creation to craft digital and interactive sculptures. His work tells the Ramybės Park’s story, (Kaunas Old Cemetery) where it is located, using a temporal narrative and symbolic language and acting as a catalyst for the local community to reflect on its past, and as a cornerstone for the stories of future generations. Bičiulystė (which can be translated from Lithuanian to mean “friend” or “kin”), the artwork’s title, refers to an ancient Baltic and Slavic custom, no longer in practice, where friends or relatives took care of a beehive together. The quality of the honey produced by the bees depended on this care, bond and support. This work, besides rediscovering the ancient origins of an identitary and community place, highlights the importance of taking care of human connections using the symbolism of bees and honey. The artwork can be experienced in the online AR Guide through everyone’s devices.
