Interactive sound installation

Jiří Suchánek is a Czech sound artist, musician and multimedia experimenter who constructs interactive sound and light installations for natural and public spaces by exploring the relationship between nature, technology and the duration of electronic media. He combines sound, light, sculpture, electronic parts and coding in site-specific works. With openspace.innsbruck, he developed three artistic ideas. OR-bits was the first interactive installation, presented in the Wilten neighbourhood. His research investigated the topics of circles, time and distance of human surroundings. With steel, plexiglas, ldr, led, accelerometers, magnets, teensy MCU, amplifiers, transducers and speakers, Suchánek created a large lighted pendulum composed of several imaginary orbits. For each orbit, the artist recorded sounds by positioning himself first near and then very far from the place of installation, integrating them with short interviews with the community, carried out during the workshops. On this occasion Suchánek decided to open his work to sound cityscapes of Kaunas. Visitors, during the entire length of the exhibition, are invited to interact with the sound installation and to activate it by moving the lighted pendulum and to listen to voices and sounds recorded.
